2026 Spring Economic Update
If you’re looking for relief on groceries, housing, or the cost-of-living yesterday’s spring economic update is a huge disappointment.
There’s no new, targeted help for families at the checkout line. No plan or action to bring down food prices. And no clear plan to get more homes built.
Instead, the Liberals are pointing to a slightly smaller deficit. But we’re still running about a $65 billion shortfall, with no path back to balance.
At the same time, the outlook is slowing.
The Bank of Canada projects growth of just 1.4 percent over the next two years, after growth of around 0.75 percent in the second half of last year.
Under the previous Conservative government, growth was closer to 2.9 percent. Today, it’s projected at just 1.4 percent. That’s a significant slowdown at a time when Canadians are already struggling with higher costs.
And that’s what people are dealing with right now.
Canadians need results, not more announcements.
