MP Kyle Seeback Issues Official Statement on US International Trade Commission Ruling

For immediate release – Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023

Official Statement by Shadow Minister for International Trade Kyle Seeback on the the ruling of the sunset review by the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC.)

(Ottawa) “The decision by the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) to allow the United States to continue to impose duties against Canadian softwood lumber products is Justin Trudeau’s failure. Over the past 8 years, Justin Trudeau has repeatedly failed to make any progress on resolving the softwood lumber dispute. To make matters worse, Justin Trudeau has repeatedly passed legislation and made decisions that have directly harmed our trading relationship with our largest and most important trading partner – the United States. The recent decision to unilaterally impose a digital services tax (DST) is but one example. Justin Trudeau’s failure to resolve the softwood lumber dispute has cost Canadian businesses billions of dollars and thousands of jobs.” “In contrast, within 6 months of a Conservative government being formed in 2006, the softwood lumber dispute was resolved.” “A common sense Conservative government will repair the trading relationship with our largest trading partner, the United States, and resolve the softwood lumber dispute - succeeding where Justin Trudeau and his Ministers have failed. Canadian workers in the forestry sector need action, not hollow words from this tired Liberal Government. A future Conservative government will help Forestry workers across Canada bring home powerful paycheques.”
