On April 1st, Canadians are being hit with yet another tax hike from Justin Trudeau and his Liberal government. As a result of the Liberals’ escalator excise tax, the cost of alcohol increases every year, adding to the tax burden on Canadians. This year, it’s an increase of 2%.

 

According to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF), taxes already make up:

• 50% of the cost of beer;

• 65% of the cost of wine; and

• 75% of the cost of spirits (CTV News Toronto, March 13, 2023).
