NEW GROCERY REBATE FOR CANADIANS. Will give $234 for a single adult to cover the rising cost of food. Canada’s Food Price Report 2023 predicts that a family of 4 will spend up to $1,065 more on food this year; that’s $598 more than the $467 rebate they will receive. Will this rebate make any difference for you?

NEW CANADIAN DENTAL CARE PLAN. The program will cost $13 billion over five years starting 2023-24 with $4.4 billion in ongoing costs each year. A large majority of Canadians already have dental coverage and will see no benefit from this program. Will this proposed dental care plan benefit you or do you already have coverage?

NEW TAX-FREE FIRST HOME SAVINGS ACCOUNT. Allows Canadians to save up to $40,000, tax-free, to help buy their first home, starting April 01, 2023. Individuals can save a maximum of $8,000 per year in a Tax-Free First Home Savings Account. Will this help you or anyone you know?

CANADA PENSION PLAN (CPP) INCREASE. Payroll taxes on workers and small businesses will increase. A worker making above $66,600 will be forced to pay an extra $255 through the mandatory CPP tax this year, in addition to paying an extra $50 through the EI tax, according to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. Can you afford losing $305 off your pay cheque?

DEBT SERVICING. The cost to service Canada’s debt this year (2023-24) is projected to be $43.9 billion. This is nearly double the costs in 2021-22, when debt servicing costs were $24.5 billion. Do you think that after this spending, your life is better or worse?
