Petition to support Canadian
canola and soybean farmers
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, draw the attention of the Government of Canada to the following:
Whereas:
Following a meeting with the Dufferin Federation of Agriculture, on behalf of the farmers from the Dufferin-Caledon riding, MP Kyle Seeback asked the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food why this Liberal government is not taking action to support our canola and soybean farmers who are dealing with significant setback as a result of the ongoing Canada-China trade disputes.
It is known this industry represents more than $30 billion dollars of Canada’s annual GDP. Canadian farmers' competitiveness has decreased as the US government has pledged $28 billion dollars through their Market Facilitation Program, to compensate their farmers for depressed canola and soybean prices.
Therefore, we, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to balance the scale for Canadian farmers by enhancing the national Business Risk Management (BRM) programs.
During Question Period in the House of Commons on December 13th, 2019, MP Kyle Seeback asked the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food about the Government's plans with regards to the above-mentioned issue.
Watch the Minister's response.
